How to design a Montessori bedroom for your toddler - Monti Family

You don't have to wait until kindergarten to encourage your child to think and act independently!

Transform your toddler's space into an obstacle-free environment, prepared for your child's life: a beautiful and pleasant room, because beauty invites activity and learning!

1- Create a fun and educational Montessori room.

Dr. Maria Montessori, who first worked with children with special needs, believed that children should benefit from an environment that creates opportunities for learning. She observed that toddlers and preschoolers take a hands-on approach to life. They imitate their elders and try to do what they do.

Arrange theright-sized chairs, a matching table, a bed that's easy for a child to get in and out of, small play shelves, sturdy, easy-to-clean, child-sized furniture to bring the world within a child's reach. furniture that's sturdy, easy to clean and child-sized, so the world is within their reach.

Add to this child-sized cleaning tools, such as a broom, dustpan and cleaning cloths, and you'll be giving your child his first tools for keeping his environment tidy.

2- Choose a simple decor

Your child's bedroom should be a place of relaxation. Think of neutral tones and soft, soothing hues such as pale blue or green, and be careful when introducing patterned elements. and take care when introducing patterned elements. Keep clutter to a minimum and choose educational games that encourage independence and self-correction.

3- An adapted bed

Cribs restrict movement and leave young children dependent on their parents for access to their own bed. As a rule, parents have to decide when their child should sleep and when he or she should wake up - a decision which, according to Montessori principles, should ultimately be left to the child. Ufloor bed is a simple way to give your toddler autonomy over his or her basic bodily instincts. Simply place your child's mattress on the floor and install a baby gate at the door to limit access to the room.

4- Adjust the scale

The world can be a pretty intimidating place when you're less than a meter tall. Reducing the size of furniture not only reduces anxiety, but also gives your toddler the opportunity to explore and interact with his environment, learning as he goes.

When decorating your baby's space, opt for child-sized furniture wherever possible. A tiny table and miniature chairs make a great workstation. A comfortable child's rocker or footstool is the perfect place to relax with a picture book. If you're planning to hang a work of art, hang it at eye level.hang it at eye level for your little one to appreciate. (To avoid accidents, screw frames and other decorative objects directly to the wall, rather than hanging them).

5- Encourage play

Toddlers should have easy access to interesting and educational games, but be careful not to overwhelm your little one. Too many toys can be too stimulating, and a child who doesn't know what to play with often ends up playing with nothing at all.

Instead of filling shelves and baskets with toys and books, try organizing a handful of your child's favorite toys into several themed shelves. Invest in low, sturdy shelving units that double as a play surface, and set out a low bookcase to display books within your toddler's reach. Be sure to update your selection of games and books regularly, so there's always something new and exciting to capture your child's attention and curiosity. Mirrors, mobiles and other such sensory experiences are also a great way to keep your child entertained.

6- Make your belongings accessible

If you want your toddler to learn to function independently in his or her own space: Consider replacing large, heavy drawers with small, child-friendly compartments, and install a bottom rail in the closet so your child can choose his or her own clothes. Easily accessible wall hooks are also an excellent choice.
